Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit the University of Sanctuary UEA Refugee Week fundraising page.
From 12-18 March, the University of Sanctuary team are inviting members of the UEA community and the general public to come together to engage in UEA Refugee Week. A week-long event that aims to celebrate the work taking place across Norfolk & the UK to create a culture of welcome for sanctuary seekers, whilst promoting a better understanding of why people seek sanctuary.
As part of the event, we are running a special Refugee Week Fundraiser.
All money raised will be split equally between the following appeals and projects:
The Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. DEC charities are in Ukraine and neighbouring countries working to meet the needs of all refugees and displaced people. For more information please see: https://www.dec.org.uk/appeal/ukraine-humanitarian-appeal
- An ongoing project with Dr Bike that offers refurbished bikes to every sanctuary scholar, with an accompanying repair service
- Working with Sportspark to offer sports passes or access to specific sports classes for sanctuary scholars
- Supplying art and craft materials when requested by sanctuary scholars
How can you help us to reach our target of £800 to support the above appeals?
1. Get involved in the UEA University of Sanctuary Walk of Welcome and ask your friends and family to sponsor you
UEA University of Sanctuary team are inviting members of the UEA community and the general public to take part in a sponsored family-friendly 'walk of welcome' around UEA Broad on 12th of March 2022.
Being a place of welcome is at the heart of UEA. Join us at 11.00am in the Sainsbury Centre of Visual Art to hear the Lord Mayor, Sheriff of Norwich, Sanctuary Scholars and staff at UEA speak about why being a place of sanctuary is so important. The 2 mile trail of welcome will follow this – and involve everyone walking in a heart shape around the lake and campus area – whilst learning welcome in new languages.
For more information, please email: university.of.sanctuary@uea.ac.uk
2. Donate. If you are not able to take part in the Walk of Welcome then perhaps you would consider donating using this page?
Every donation, no matter how big or small will make a huge difference.
Thank you.
With kind regards
UEA University of Sanctuary Team
Please note, as of 2nd of March the focus of the appeal was updated to include 50% of fundraising to be given to support the Disaster Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. All money raised prior to the 1st March will be donated entirely to the UEA Sanctuary Scholar Wellbeing Activities Fund as this was the only fund given at this time.
