WALK THE LINE FOR HAITI · 25 October 2010

Before the devastating earthquake of the 12th of January 2010, an estimated 1.3 million of Haiti's school-aged children did not have access to an education. UHUK was formed in 2008 in direct response to helping Haiti's children get an education. UHUK has been tirelessly working at making a positive contribution in the lives of the impoverished children in Haiti by working with selected grassroots organisations in the country. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. They say that every child has the right to an education, however, for those born into a life of poverty, education becomes even more paramount in helping them secure a prosperous future. We were sponsoring 16 children in Carrefour and we want to expand to include more sponsorships and assist in the building and re-building of more schools throughout Haiti. Please donate now and help us in our challenge of educating the under privileged children in Haiti.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Fola and a few months ago I was privileged to meet a most wonderful baby girl named Landina. In January of this year she was rescued as a newborn under a pile of rubble from a collapsed hospital during the catastrophic Haiti Earthquake. She suffered severe injuries resulting in the amputation of her left arm and burns to her head. However her exuberant nature and fighting spirit affected me so much that I wanted to do something to help the victims of this tragedy.

The whole of London plays host to this one of kind, unique fundraising event.  I will walk the length and breadth of London following the iconic London Tube Network.

Why you may ask? Well simply to raise money for the Haiti Relief Effort. Christian Aid and United Haitians in the UK are two child centred charities who will benefit from the proceeds. I hope to raise at least £2,000.

I will walk a length of each of the 13 tube lines, totalling over 290 miles, starting with Upminster at the east end of District Line at 08.00 and walking to Richmond (over 40miles).

I will keep you appraised of my progress via regular real time updates onto Facebook and Twitter.

So please get behind the walk and give generously to the cause. Over 220,000 Haitians lost their lives and over 300,000 more were left injured in the horrific earthquake.

It would be wonderful to receive you comments and encouragement during this week long challenge through postings on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.
