Story
A few weeks ago, I stumbled across Anna Masters' Instagram account (@annamastersart) linked from another #watchnerd's post. Anna is a mixed media and installation artist, whose work examines the transformational qualities of time. Although she mainly creates larger site-specific installations, she had previously made smaller 3D pieces based on watch and clock parts, suspended in space.
We started talking about her work, and she very generously volunteered to create a one-off, unique, time-specific piece to raise money for Mind. The piece is called Minute, Minute 2020 and contains hundreds of wheels, gears and other parts from salvaged watches and clocks (see photos in the gallery, above). By suspending them on clear nylon, Anna creates the illusion that the materials are floating mid-air - defying gravity and perhaps even defying time, too.
We are hoping that you, the members of #teamwatchnerd and the wider #watchnerd community, will join us to raise some money to support Mind, the mental health charity by purchasing one or more raffle tickets. We will be selling 100 tickets, at £10 each, through donations made on this page. Please let me know who you are - for example by sending me a screen grab of your donation to thewatchnerd.co.uk@gmail.com, or via Instagram or Twitter (@the_watchnerd). By doing so, you'll also be granting me permission to contact you should you win.
The competition will run for two weeks, with the announcement of a winner made on Monday 25th May 2020. There is one prize: a unique artwork created by Anna Masters. Each £10 donation made on this site will be eligible for one of 100 entries into a random draw.
Minute, Minute 2020 is a 25cm x 25cm mixed media installation, made with watch and clock parts on nylon, created specifically for this event.
