Story
Water is essential for life! In our area we have no fresh water supply and have to bring water to the school, at least 10,000 litres each day, involving a 10 mile round trip. At the moment we have a 13 year old lorry that can carry 2,500 litres per trip. As our lorry now has over 200,000 kms it breaks down a lot and is costing a lot to keep it on the road and can often be off the road – meaning no water and a lot of catch up!
We are looking into ways to help our children have a constant supply of safe clean water, desalination is one option (we are currently testing our salty water and costing up the price of installing a plant)
Our other option is to replace our old lorry with a newer one that could carry 7,500 – 10,000 litres. That would mean we would only have to make 1 or 2 trips each day and would then be able to help others with supply of water.
Can you help get this project going? Once we have the full costing of of the desalination plant we will make our decision as to which will the best way to provide water for our children and the people of Timbwani. Until then we are setting our sights on £20,000 which is the cost of a new lorry fitted with a water tank.
