Story

On April 25th 2021 my triplet brother Alex was hit by a car while cycling. He had been on the way to pick up a takeaway to celebrate ours and our brother-in-laws birthday, but instead ended up in intensive care with life-threatening injuries. With multiple broken bones, and a severe trauma to the brain, Alex was unconscious for two weeks and the family had no idea if he would wake up, or what the extent of his injuries would be when he did.

Thanks to the amazing care at Salford Royal Hospital, and Alex's stubbornness and determination to recover, he finally woke and began his rehabilitation.

The broken bones are healing well, but the head injury Alex suffered caused extensive damage. It took Alex a number of weeks before he was able to talk properly with his family and children and the road to recovery is a long one. One year on, and Alex has shown incredible strength and is improving every day. He has reached some phenomenal milestones along the way that seemed unattainable this time last year.

The last year has been challenging for all the family, and none more so than for Alex's fantastic wife Eliana and their two beautiful girls who have been incredibly strong and resilient. We are all grateful to Headway who provided excellent support and information to help the family through this challenging time.

Brain injury can challenge every aspect of your life walking, talking, thinking and feeling and the losses can be severe and permanent. It can mean losing both the life you once lived and the person you once were. We all think 'it will never happen to me', but every year around 350,000 people are admitted to hospital with an acquired brain injury. That's one every 90 seconds. A brain injury can happen to anyone, at any time. When it does, Headway is there to help.

Please help support today by donating to my fundraising page!
