My reasons for raising money for brain tumour research are simple - my daughter, Caroline was diagnosed with a rare growth hormone secreting pituitary brain tumour at the age of 13 resulting in the condition acromegaly gigantism where the body produces too much growth hormone, causing body tissues and bones to grow too quickly. Over time this leads to abnormally large hands, feet and height and a wide range of other debilitating symptoms. Although Caroline's first operation was a successful in removing the tumour, a second tumour was diagnosed two years ago. Again this was removed but there is no guarantee it won't return.
Acromegaly is normally diagnosed in people between the ages of 30-50 but when it develops before puberty, as in Caroline's case, then it is called gigantism. Very few patients are diagnosed before puberty and with so little known about the condition, research is vital to spread awareness and to help those with the condition and importantly help their families to support them.
We would be so grateful for any donation that you feel able to make.
Thank you
Lisa & Caroline xx
