Story

TEAM MEMBERS - Wayne Bullough, Chris Caw, Anthony Unsworth

As many of you will know, I ran the Wigan Half Marathon last year in memory of my cousin, Stephen Bullough, who sadly passed away in 2019. As a consequence of the COVID Pandemic, the official event was cancelled, meaning I had to select my own route and run it virtually, with the brilliant support of my good friend, Zack Higham.

A few months ago, I think I lost my mind a little and decided to apply both through the main ballot and several charities, to run the 2021 London Marathon. Stephen himself had ran two Marathon's for the Children's Society, he did in fact have a place confirmed to run his third, however, he had to defer it due to struggling with a knee injury, he obviously sadly never got to actually do it. He helped soo many people along the way, from his family and friends to those that benefitted due to his fundraising efforts.

This was one of the main reasons and motivations behind me wanting to run it myself, and thankfully, the Children's Society have selected me to join their Marathon team to try and raise as much money as possible to support their charity.

Thankfully, if one good thing has come out of the Pandemic personally, it's that I've managed to find my love for training and fitness, to allow me to better support my family both physically and mentally, and to fully enjoy the times we get together. I will admit that I've had my struggles and down days, but I'm feeling the best that I have in a long time. I am determined to be as ready as I possibly can be to complete the event on the day.

I know I have asked a lot of you over recent years, asking for donations and such, but this one really is special to me and I would appreciate any level of donation, even a pound or two helps. Also, please do share my page if possible.

Thank you in advance!!!

UPDATE - On hearing of the news of me securing a place to run the London Marathon, and after putting a hell of a lot of training in himself over the last several months, my brilliant friend, CHRIS CAW, decided to apply through the Children’s Society to try and get a place on the team, and in the process tick off something from his bucket list! And he’s only gone and bloody well sweet talked his way in!

MORE EXCITING NEWS...

After hearing both my news, then finding out about Chris, my awesome pal, ANTHONY UNSWORTH, also decided to throw his name in the hat to try and secure a place with the Children’s Society.... and he’s only gone and bloody done it! I was excited at getting a place in the first place, now I can’t wait to take on the challenge with two of my best friends!!

Target now at £6k!!! As the COVID Pigs (Wigan RUFC Training Squad) always do, we will take on this challenge together and smash it to pieces!! Bring it on!! 🖤🐷🤍🏃🏻‍♂️
