I'm raising money for White Cloud because something needs to be done to stop suicide and help people suffering depression. Each year, approx 1 million Australians are diagnosed with depression with many more going undiagnosed. Sadly, 6 Australians die from suicide every day and a further 30 will attempt to take their own life. Depression and suicide can be prevented with early intervention strategies and WCF recognises that often the best strategies are non-medical and address the underlying cause. In men and women, depression is often caused by social isolation, finances, relationships or job loss. Women also have an increased risk of developing depression during pregnancy and the year following giving birth. WCF's FUNDAMENTALS and Meals for Mums programs provide practical support to treat the underlying causes be it through nutritious meals, budget management, career counselling or even lawn mowing. It is real, hands on help when a person most needs it to help build resilience.
