As many of you will know, in 2014, Rosie Boo arrived on the scene, changing us and our lives forever.
She was born at home, following a gruelling 50 minute labour and immediately it was apparent that she wasn’t quite like our other three children. The midwife team present were quick to diagnose her as having Down’s Syndrome and we were hurriedly taken to hospital for tests to confirm the same.
Fast forward three and a half years and following a great deal of hard work and perseverance, Rosie is walking unaided, signing Makaton like a boss and trying desperately to talk. She has trained herself out of nappies (day AND night) and is currently gearing up for starting at mainstream school with her older brother and sisters, this September.
Rosie continues to do well, making friends and spreading light and happiness wherever she goes. It is our hope that, with support from the Down’s Syndrome Association, she will live a fulfilled and independent life.
Realising that my days of endurance challenges are possibly over, I have decided that, on 21st March, 2018 - World Down Syndrome Day - I will not only be sporting my Lots of Socks (https://www.downs-syndrome.org.uk/product/lots-of-socks-socks-2018/) socks but will also be getting my ponytail cut off and donating my hair (about 14 inches) to The Little Princess Trust (http://www.littleprincesses.org.uk) - a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young adults, who have sadly lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses. Two great causes for the price of one!
I know that many of you support charities that are close to your heart, but any contribution you are able to make in support of my latest fundraising endeavour would be hugely appreciated. As an added incentive…if I manage to raise £10,000 or more by World Down Syndrome Day, 2 of my sisters and I will get our heads shaved and donate all the hair to The Little Princess Trust!!!!
Thank you xxxxx
