Story

We are trekking to Everest Base Camp in Nepal. It will take us 10 days trekking to reach Base Camp and a height of 5600 metres where there is only 50% of the oxygen that there is at sea level. We will be walking amongst 4 out of the 6 tallest mountains in the world. Since we will be trekking back again too we will be walking for 17 days in total. We'll need a shower and a shave afterwards but it will all have been worth it.

We greatly appreciate if you are able to make a donation, however small, to our chosen charities. We are paying for this adventure ourselves and so all money donated goes to the charities.

Having seen people very close to me suffer from mental health issues I feel very strongly about supporting charities that raise the awareness of mental health and help others in similar circumstances.

  • 250,000 adults and 45,000 children and young people have a mental health need at any one time (1 in 6 of the population)

  • The overall suicide rate in Northern Ireland is 9.7 per 100,000 and in recent years there has been an increasing trend, particularly in men under the age of 35 years

  • A quarter of suicide inquiries in the UK showed that the individual died within three months of discharge from in-patient care. In England and Wales, 40% died before the first review appointment. This was 35% in Scotland and 66% in Northern Ireland

  • An estimated one-third to two-thirds of children whose parents have mental health problems will experience difficulties themselves

Action Mental Health's mission is to make a positive difference in people's mental health. Your donation will help to make a real difference to people's lives.
