Story

My name is Steph Jeavons and I am a biker. In fact I love biking so much that I motorcycled around the world on my Honda called Rhonda for 4 years. You might think I'm crazy. You might be right.

While I was on the road I was lucky enough to visit some amazing places. I also met some amazing people, and without exception, found the generosity and hospitality of those that I met to be ridiculously humbling. Especially those with next to nothing. They taught me a lot.

Being a biker I am always amazed at how we come together as a community to help others, and it is on that fact that I am counting now as I ask you to help me raise £17,000 to build a well for the Samburu Tribe in Northern Kenya.

I can't do this one solo, so I am asking my community to join me and help build this well.

You can do that in one of two ways;

1. If you don't have much time, you can donate and share the link to help spread the word, OR

2. You can create a team on this page and do something big or small to get even more people involved (all team totals will automatically be added to the goal). This could be as simple as organising a ride where everyone pays to join you, or running a pub quiz, a sponsored walk/ride/pub crawl/climb, a bungee jump, or a bake off. You could even just organise a dinner for your friends and charge them a tenner each to attend! Are you a member of a bike club? Perhaps you could do something together. Its all a great excuse to meet up and have some fun/have a party/get drunk/eat cake/ride etc! Anything is better than nothing so please don't worry if its just a small thing!

You could even join our Girls On Top (women only) expedition to Everest Base Camp by Royal Enfield. (This is a commercial expedition with the option to get sponsors. No costs will be covered through the fundraising) This is a world first and will be an amazing journey on so many levels. (see info here - nomadicknights.com/girls-on-top-everest-base-camp)

Of course if you are not a biker, we don't mind! If you are up for joining us in this challenge then you have the spirit of a biker and we will happily consider you an honorary member of our community.

I will be getting t-shirts and stickers organised soon with the logo (currently under construction) and hope to get a sponsor to cover these costs so we can send out a fundraising pack to our teams. If you are a company interested in supporting this, please email me - stephjeavons@gmail.com

We also hope to go out and report on the well being bored when it happens (fundraisers are welcome to join me at own expense of course). This requires a lot of planning and preparation, and timing is crucial so we can't promise a  photo of them hitting water but we will try. We can promise regular reports on the project as our well is built. Our group name - WELL BORING BIKERS and logo will be placed on the well once it is complete and 1000 people will instantly benefit from its existence!

Due to climate change, the Samburu people experience longer dry seasons and more violent flash floods so their need for water is now more desperate than ever.

For further details on how the well will benefit the community (including education, health and women's empowerment) please visit www.thesamburuproject.org

All donations go straight to the charity and once we hit the target the process will begin.

If you have any questions at all please email me at stephjeavons@gmail.com

About the charity

Samburu women and girls walk up to 12 miles or 6 hours, every day in search of water. Every 20 seconds, a child dies from preventable water-related disease. Wells save lives and result in kids going to school. Watch our video at https://vimeo.com/150817630 .
