Story
We lost our beautiful Michelle in January 2023 after a 7+ year battle with cancer. To try to help other families going through this dreadful experience I will be running the 2023 London Marathon in memory of the most vibrant, fun-loving person you've ever met: my fabulous wife Michelle.
As you may know I have run several marathons for many causes including the Martlet's hospice previously. I've saved the rhinos and helped with children's charities. However, I never thought I would be doing it in memory of someone so close to our hearts.
I have been on marathon hiatus for the best part of 10 years after an extremely difficult, sweltering Singapore Marathon in 2013. To be honest I never thought I'd run one again. I only signed up for London 2 months ago, not ideal given most training programmes run from 16-20 weeks. I will therefore not be trying to run another sub 4hr marathon. That is way beyond me. My purpose is to raise awareness of bowel cancer (please get checked no matter how small your issue may be!) and hospices like the Martlets that go above and beyond to cater for patients and their families, to ensure everyone is looked after when the patient is nearing the end of their life. But even more important for us is to remember the kind, caring, selfless soul that was Michelle. Her memory will live on among us all....
The Martlets provide services that the NHS cannot provide. Their expenses are huge and therefore every little you donate can help in some way. Please read below from the Martlets:
