Hi - Due to a horse riding accident 16 years ago I suffered a spinal cord injury which paralysed both legs, hands and left me with some arm and shoulder movement,. This meant a complete life change for me, going from being an active 41 year old mother of two under ten who had worked with horses for the previous 20 years, to someone sitting in a wheelchair totally dependent on others. At this terrible time the Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund where able to offer help with horse care costs which luckily for me i didn't need, but for other must be a life-line giving peace of mind that their horse/s would be looked after during what is a very stressful time. Also the fund can help with the cost of equipment, such as wheelchairs etc..., often not properly funded by the government, and when newly injured they contributed towards the cost of my electric bed which is still in use 16 years later.

Covid-19 has stopped all horse shows and events going ahead this year leaving the Mark Davies Injured Riders fund struggling for fundraising opportunities. But also it curtailed my studying, my dissertation was cancelled in March, so i decided to improve my neglected fitness. My daughter, a keen half marathon, hill and other mad distances runner, has been encouraging me to take up the challenge of a half marathon so here goes.

The plan is to complete the 13.1 miles (23,056 yards) distance by wheeling up and down my 18 yard patio, at a rate of 98 (equal to 1 mile) times per day - so over 13 days - if i am rained off (my wheelchair pushing rims are slippery when wet and i can't move) it may take me longer. The challenge begins on Wednesday 19th Aug 2020, hopefully finishing on the 31st Aug!

I have planned to split anything i raised between Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund and the Spinal Injuries Association however it seems impossible to set up a dual page - so anything donated here will go to MDIRF but i will be doing a very similar page for the SAI so please look out for that too -
