Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Why am I interested in Cardiomyopathy?

I still remember the phone call from my closest friend Emma, late in 2009. ‘I’ve had a letter from the cardiologist. He says that the scan shows that I have got ‘diseased heart muscle’. Thats cardiomyopathy isn’t it?’. My heart sank. It was indeed cardiomyopathy.

Emma had been undergoing lots of tests to try and find the cause for her over whelming fatigue, breathlessness and chest pain. The disease had stayed well hidden for many years but finally it was revealed. Less than a year later she had open heart surgery to relieve the dangerous obstruction to her heart’s pumping mechanism. It has been and still is a roller coaster. Emma needed further open heart surgery in 2013. The hoped for improvements have been limited and she even underwent a heart transplant assessment (fortunately the conclusion was that life expectancy at present is better with her own diseased heart than with a transplanted one)
