Story
I’m running the Edinburgh marathon on 22 May 2011, it seemed like a good idea less than a year after having Daisy…..
Anyway, I’ve decided to do it to raise money for the John Thornton Young Achievers’ Foundation, a charity that is close to the hearts of my family, not least because my husband Matthew is a proud ambassador for them.
John was an officer in the Royal marines and was killed by an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) whilst on duty in Afghanistan in 2008.
His parents and a few friends set up the foundation in order to give an extra push to youngsters who have a talent, or potential skill and maybe do not have the resources to really make the most of it.
John’s life was all about climbing as high as he could dream and the foundation follows this philosophy in helping others do the same. The foundation has been going just over two years and is over the moon to have given out over £100,000 in scholarships in that time, from extra physics classes to a boy who wants to be a rocket scientist, through music lessons for a talented young musician and flying lessons for a young man who wants to be a commando helicopter pilot.
Any donation you can give will both help me on my way around the route, as well as giving as young person the chance to realise their potential to the full.
More details of the foundation can be found on their website which is www.jtyaf.org please help all you can, even the smallest donation makes a difference.
With many many thanks
