Story
My dad, Graham, and I will be cycling from London to Paris in September 2014 for Compassion, who work to improve and protect the welfare of farm animals globally. Be it the long distance transport and live export of animals or the confinement of pigs in sow stalls (or many other issues), Compassion campaigns to bring an end to factory farming.
Live animal exports is particularly relevant to this ride as the route takes in many locations involved in the trade: it leaves the UK via Dover, as do all exported UK farm animals as it is the only port in the UK that is involved in the live export trade; once in France we set off from Calais, the port where the live export vessel involved in the trade is berthed and where UK animals also reach mainland Europe; and one of the towns passed through on the ride is Abbeville, the location of a lairage where many farm animals are 'rested' [for just 24 hours] before being sent to abattoirs all across the EU. Whilst we 'only' have to make it from there to Paris, many farm animals journeys are much longer and the reception on arrival far less pleasant.
A donation will help Compassion to fight this trade and assist many other important campaigns.
Our fundraising target is high, so please dig deep and donate now. and don't forget to Gift Aid if you are eligible!
