Dear friends, family and everyone reading this! Martijn here, back in Palestine (!!!) 3 years since volunteering with SkatePal for the first time. Now I am going to walk the whole length of the West Bank - the Palestine Heritage Trail to raise money for SkatePal and Gaza Skate Team! With our help they can keep doing amazing work here and keep investing in the life of children in Palestine through skating! Anyone who has the ability to miss a few euros - know that every donation, no matter how much, is going to a great cause and is so so much appreciated! And thank you so much from me! some more about what and why below :)

Palestine is a beautiful country with the nicest people, culture, history, food… but also with a very sad and very very fucked up reality. Here children grow up with little opportunities and no perspective, no freedom, and surrounded by way too much violence, oppresion and struggles you can’t imagine in your daily life. SkatePal is doing an amazing job for many children in Ramallah, Asira and around the country, where skateboarding brings them joy, peace of mind, distraction and a safe place to be just a kid for a moment.

My time volunteering with SkatePal was such an inspiring and rewarding experience for me and right when I started I knew I was going back as soon as possible! Fast forward through covid, but since the end of last year I have been travelling and slowly making my way here. I’ve been in Palestine for two weeks now, and it’s amazing to see everyone again. The skatepark is still full of energy with happy and excited boys and girls! Still shredding the park like last time, but a lot better and bigger now.

SkatePal and the skaters in Gaza are dependant on donations and funds to keep skating and keep their projects running.

Im trying to raise money during my stay in Palestine by walking the full Palestine Heritage Trail - around 330km from the north of Jenin, to south of Hebron - discovering the country, its nature, villages and people - and ofc sharing my travels with you - while raising some money for SkatePal & Gaza Skate Team! With summer temperatures here it’s gonna be a proper challenge :) If you have any means for a donation and support with any amount no matter how small! I would appreciate it so so much and the money goes to a great cause! Thank you all!!!

Oh and if you want to follow my hike through the West Bank, I will try to share frequent updates of my walk on Instagram! @mvhemmen_
