Story
You have got to this page because you have listened to our song “Mend“ which highlights the devastating journey that people diagnosed with MND face and our sincere hope that a cure can
be found.
Why call a group “The Wevet Menders? WEVET is an old Dorset word for a cobweb. So, a Wevet Mender would need the skills of a neurosurgeon; the dexterity of a spider and the knowledge of which connections to make. The tiny filaments which make up our nervous systems can sometimes send the wrong messages. Motor Neurone Disease is like a fly in the Wevet of our brains.
The Wevet Menders hope that our song will help raise funds for research into the causes of Motor Neurone Disease and, one day find a treatment to prevent it. Help us to swat the fly in the Wevet!
All donations made go to the Mid Kent Branch to support people in the local area.
Background
The idea of writing a song to raise funds and awareness of MND came from Dave - just an ordinary person like you or me. He says:
“Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is one disease that you would not wish on your worst enemy, let alone your loved ones. 10 months after my lovely wife, Lynn was diagnosed, she passed away – 12th October 2020, we were together for 51 years, a wife, mother, daughter, sister and my best friend. I cannot do anything about what has happened to me and my family, but I do want to do whatever I can to make sure no other family has to go through what we did.
With the help of Robin Fuller and his family and friends, a group called “The Wevet Menders” was formed and they have written and performed a song that we hope will inspire you to help us to raise £10,000 to further research into this terminal condition
Research into MND is moving on at a rapid pace and our brilliant scientists are now talking about WHEN and not IF they will find a way of stopping this disease. But to do this they need the funds to carry out their research and clinical trials. We are setting ourselves a target to raise £10,000. So please listen to the lyrics make whatever donation you can and share this with your family friends and colleagues - together we can make big things happen
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.” - Dave Smart
