Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon · 21 May 2017

A sanctuary dedicated to the care and shelter of farm animals rescued from cruelty, abuse or neglect. Set on 100 acres in Sydney, Australia, the animal residents - from pigs to hens to cows to horses - are free to be themselves, living the life all farm animals deserve, free from harm and suffering.

Story

Hi fellow friends,

Welcome to our fundraising page and thank you for taking the
time to read our page…

Our story

Out of all the charity donations in the world, only 0.015%
go to farmed animals… which is why we thought we should do something about it.They really need our help!

Farmed animals are no different to our dog and cat
companions that we love deeply. They all feel joy, pain, suffering, anxiety…and they all have different personalities!

Through our experience we discovered that most people don’t
make the same connection with farmed animals… because they never get a chance to spend time with them and make that connection with them.

So we have decided to go on a mission to raise awareness of animal suffering and cruelty within the animal agricultural industries, and help people making the connection.

We have found an amazing animal rescue sanctuary called
Where Pigs Fly, where you can actually meet all the happy and free animals, and make the connection with them. We encourage everyone to check it out… adults… kids… everyone is welcome! You just need to book online.

We completely fell in love with Where Pigs Fly Animal Sanctuary and decided to do a fund-raising event for them.

Our challenge

To raise awareness to the general public for the sanctuary (as well as some generous donations), we have set ourselves the challenge of
running the Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon (21km) on May 21st! Maybe not too challenging for some people… but a tough challenge for us, as none of us are really good runners, and none of us have run a half marathon before.

Running a half marathon to raise awareness about farmed
animals has several meanings to us… it’s about going through pain and suffering in recognition of the pain and suffering these animals endure their entire lives… and we also want to prove that we can do it on a plant-based diet…!

Our team

  • Karine: Who has put the team together and brought the sanctuary to the teams attention.
  • Aurelie: The minimalist runner of the team... she usually runs almost naked but will proudly wear Where Pigs Fly tee-shirt on the event!
  • Chris
  • Jason
  • Jeremy
  • Tim: who has never ran before and will be running 2 half marathons the same week-end…

Where Pigs Fly Sanctuary

Located only 1½ hours north of Sydney, their mission is to rescue farmed animals, educate the public and inspire. Currently they have
rescued more than 150 farmed animals including pigs, cows, hens, turkeys, goats, sheep and horses, offering them the most amazing care and love they deserve. Once you meet animals, you discover they all have different personalities and communicate to us in their own way… you feel the connection.

Because it’s a non-profit, registered charity dedicated to animal rescue, there is no funding from the Government…  All donations are gratefully received and will go directly towards providing shelter and care for the rescued animals.

Donations

Our goal is to raise $2000 before May 21st…!

Your donation is important, and this is how you can help:

  • $15 - Buys one bale of hay for the rescue animals
  • $25 - Buys one bag of animal feed for the sheep and goats
  • $50 - Pays for a farrier visit for one horse
  • $100 - Helps purchase feed for the the orphaned lambs and calfs
  • $250 - Will contribute towards monthly vetinerary bill which ensure all the rescue animals remain healthy and happy
  • $500 - Will contribute towards a new shelter for the recently arrived
    rescue pigs

Your donation is extremely important for each animal @ Where
Pigs Fly Animal Sanctuary so they can receive adequate food, shelter, and veterinary care. It will also allow the sanctuary to rescue more farmed animals that desperately need a place to call home and continue to raise awareness of the impact of animal agriculture on the animals themselves.

You have the power to make a difference and to make their life better… Every donation counts.

Many thanks,

XX
