Story
Jon Shaw Foundation works hard to help young people live safely with epilepsy. It provides funding for monitors and alarms to make sure that help can get to them straight away whenever they have a seizure. The monitors give some peace of mind to families and reassurance to the young person that they'll be OK, someone will get to them. The young person can start to feel confident and regain some of the independence they need.
Jon Shaw Foundation also works to improve the mental health of bereaved siblings and close friends. After losing Jon, his brothers and friends had to cope with their grief alone and unnoticed, even putting their own pain aside to look after parents and other younger siblings. We want them to be noticed and offer support e.g bereavement counselling just for them days out, therapeutic activities etc. Whatever it takes to get them through.
SUDEP (SUDDEN Unexpected Death in epilepsy) takes the lives of 600 people every year in the UK, It took Jon Shaw at the age of 19, not many people know about SUDEP. Jon Shaw Foundation aims yo change that.
