Hussain ibn Ali gave everything he had for those around him. What will you give? This month, you can give life.

This month, Who is Hussain encourages you all to give back by sponsoring a child's lifesaving operation by donating through Who Is Hussain's #GIVE LIFE campaign.

Modern day Iraq was the place of Hussain’s astonishing final stand, where he selflessly gave his life to fight a tyrant. Millions of Iraqis draw inspiration from this act, commemorating his heroism every year. It is a tragedy, though, that the country continues to experience significant troubles.

An estimated 3.5 million Iraqi children are living in poverty, bearing the brunt of a faltering healthcare system, worsened by the ongoing conflict and political unrest.

Every year more than 35,000 children in Iraq die and from those that survive, one quarter under five displays stunted physical or intellectual development. These are the effects of chronic malnutrition. 1.1 million internally displaced persons in Iraq are in-fact children, according to UNICEF.

The difficulties children face are numerous. Due to inadequate nutrition, unsanitary living conditions and little access to healthcare, there has been an increase of preventable diseases, acute respiratory infections and diarrhoea as well as an increase in birth defects, leukaemia and childhood cancers due to low level radiation.

All of these problems are made worse by the huge shortage of doctors since 2003: 250 doctors in Iraq have been kidnapped, 2,000 murdered and 20,000 have fled.

Today, you can help alleviate these troubles.

There are many Iraqi children who require life-saving operations. We urge you to donate to sponsor to help young children requiring vital surgery. Children of all backgrounds – Yazidi, Christian and Muslim – for whom we can be their salvation.

You can help a little girl with congenital heart disease or cancer. It’s in your hands to save that young boy with a respiratory condition. In partnership with agencies on the ground, Who is Hussain – with your generosity – can change a child’s life today.
