Whoosh 9 Edinburgh to Skipton · 29 April 2011
Whoosh 9 is a 5 day cycle ride of about 270 miles from Edinburgh to Skipton via the Northumberland Coast and the Yorkshire Dales. 30 people will cycle all or part of the distance to raise money for a church-based childrens' nursery project in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
Many of the riders know Charles and Suzanne Windsor who, with their 3 children, have lived in Cochabamba for many years working to establish both nurseries and work in prisons with women and children. The overall plan is to establish the nurseries and hand them over to local control.
The money raised from this ride will help to enable a new nursery to be built, on land already purchased, so that when the lease on the existing building runs out, the nursery will be permanently established and not reliant on a landlord. It will also allow the existing group of 60 children to be expanded to 100. The total cost of this project is £30K and we would like to raise at least £5K towards it.
Sadly, before he could see his life's work completed in this way, Charles Windsor died recently of cancer, so we want to this money to help creat a permanent memorial to the faithful commitment of Charles and his family to the poor of Bolivia.
Many of the children helped come from very disadvantaged backgrounds and the nursery can be a vital lifeline for stability and a start in life. The existing waiting lists are very long.
Note that the money will be channeled through Latin Link, a Christian charity working in South America and who sponsored the Windsor family's work in Bolivia. They take 6% of everything raised, in administration costs. Gift aiding your donation however, helps to offset this charge.
