Story
We have challenged ourselves to complete the three peaks in 24 hours challenge. This will involve climbing the three highest mountains in the UK in one day. Starting with Ben Nevis (1,344m), the highest mountain in the UK, tackling Scafell Pike over night (977m), and finishing on Snowdon (1,085m).
Over the 24 hours we will be:
- Trekking for around 18 hours during the challenge, the remaining time will be spent travelling between the mountains.
- We will cover over 28 miles of undulating terrain - over a marathon distance but over three mountains.
- Ascending a total of 3,000m in 24 hours.
We are doing all of this in recognition of WHSmith in 2017 marking its 225th year since it was founded. In celebration of this, WHSmith has pledged to raise £2m for three charities. All fundraising will be split between the following three charities as voted for by current WHSmith employees:
- Mind
- Cancer Research UK
- National Literacy Trust
Any donation no matter how small or large is very gratefully received and will help these charities with their invaluable work they do to support those with mental health difficulties, cancer and literacy challenges.
Many thanks,
Pete, Annemarie, Claire, Rachel Ruta & Tom
