Ironman 70.3 Texas · 8 April 2018

Story

In 2016 I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and on 8 April 2018 I am going to complete my first 70.3 Ironman and to raise over $10,000 for the CF Foundation.
My motivation for completing the 70.3 Ironman is the likelihood that I will pass CF onto our daughter Savanna who was born on 28th September 2017. Whatever money we raise will help her and all the other children and families who have to deal with this life threatening disease.

CF is a progressive genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. Defective genes cause a thick build up of mucus in the lungs, pancreas and other organs. In the lungs mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, lung damage and can lead to respiratory failure.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was started in 1955 by a group of parents in the US, they fund research for new treatments and strive to prolong the life expectancy of people with CF. Currently CF is found in about 70,000 people worldwide and 30,000 in the US.
