Story
This April, I am taking part in Bournemouth Bay Run and supporting the RNLI. The RNLI lifeboats in Poole and Mudeford protect communities along the race course through their 24-hour search and rescue service. They rely on the safest, most reliable lifeboats and modern stations to launch from. Meanwhile their lifeguards protect everyone during busy peak spring and summer seasons, helping everyone to enjoy the beautiful local coastline safely.
The RNLI have been saving lives along this stretch of coast for a long time. During the Second World War, my grandfather, serving on a minesweeper in the English Channel, ended up in the water after his boat was sunk. Without the RNLI who braved enormously dangerous conditions to rescue him, my mother would never have been born, and I wouldn't be here today. I spent many happy childhood holidays with him in Bournemouth, and so I'll be thinking of him as I run for the charity he and my family owe so much to.
People still need the RNLI's help today and they will always be there to answer that call. That's why I am taking part, to help RNLI to keep launching and save every one they can.Thank you for your support.
