Story

Will, our amazing son, is 11-years-old and our world fell apart when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour during lockdown in July 2020.

He has bravely undergone a gruelling treatment protocol of surgery, 6 weeks of radiotherapy in University Hospital London and high dose chemotherapy with stem cell therapy on Piam Brown Ward in Southampton. He spent many days and nights in isolation in hospital, but was always smiling and polite.

Will being the caring boy he is, decided he wanted to help The Brain Tumour Charity find a cure for this cruel disease and prevent other people going through what he has. He is hoping to raise as much  money as he can by challenging himself to walk 70m across the width of a rugby pitch on May the 1st 2022.

This may sound an easy achievement to many of us, but this is a huge goal for Will who was, after surgery, even unable to sit himself up in bed.

Sadly, surgery to remove the tumour and the effects of his treatment meant that Will was unable to walk and has been learning to do this all over again.
Will has Posterior Fossa Syndrome, a side effect from surgery, which means he has a weakness down one side of his body and a poor sense of balance.

This has not held him back and by sheer determination and resilience he has spent the last year doing endless physio and hydrotherapy to try to learn to walk again.

He has gone from simply learning to stand, to using a frame to walk a few steps, to now learning to walk with crutches.

After seeing what Will has gone through, we all want to raise as much money as possible to support research into a cure so that no other family has to endure the same ordeal.

This page is to focus all efforts to support Will's aim to fundraise for the Brain Tumour Charity while he learns to walk again.

All these events will lead up to Will undertaking his biggest challenge of all - walking 70m across North Dorset Rugby Club's pitch.  North Dorset RFC have kindly committed to support the Brain Tumour Charity and Will over the next 12 months.

Thank you to the amazing people who are joining in and also raising money with other events and for everyone's support to Will ❤
