Which Way's East Mongol Rally Challenge! · 5 August 2018

The Radley Foundation exists to harness engagement and support from across the global Radley community, in pursuit of our new vision for Radley. Since its creation in 2000 the Foundation has played a vital role in supporting the College and creating life-changing educational opportunities.

Story

In summary, the challenge involves driving one tiny, decrepit car containing three hulking teenagers (only speaking one language between them!) 13,500km across 19 countries, 5 mountain ranges, 3 deserts and 2 seas to the Republic of Buryatia in eastern Siberia.

The team gave their reasoning for supporting the Silk Fund:

"We recognize how incredibly fortunate we were to have been educated at Radley for a combined total of 15 years. We are grateful to have had such a fantastic opportunity, but equally aware that few are as privileged as us. Consequently, we would like to give something in return, to allow boys less fortunate than us to benefit from a Radley education.

The Silk Fund is a Radley charity that specifically helps those who show a good all-round ability but, for financial reasons, would not otherwise be able to attend the College. It enables them to access the amazing spectrum of opportunities and facilities that Radley has to offer. For these boys, the Silk Fund provides a truly life-changing opportunity and the three of us have seen the effect it can have first-hand.

On behalf of all of us and the boys we are aiming to assist through the Silk Fund, please accept our most gracious thanks for any support you feel you can give."

To support the invaluable opportunities that the Silk Fund provides, the team have set their fundraising goal at £29,700, an amount that would be the record amount of money raised by a Mongol rally team!
The Radley Foundation is committed to this venture and will match all donations that are raised pound for pound, through its other fundraising.

Not deterred by the scale of the challenge or their lack of mechanical and map-reading expertise, they depart on the 10th July from Hampshire and aim to complete the rally in Russia’s Far East around the 26th August.

The team name is WhichWaysEast? and updates on our progress will be posted on Facebook and Instagram.
