Brighton Marathon 2015 · 12 April 2015 ·
I took up running after making a decision to leave my career as a chef and enter into an undergraduate degree at Sussex University.
I was worried that after 12 years of working on my feet for 50-70hrs per week, that I would have trouble adjusting to sitting in front of a book/computer for the same amount of time. I decided to run the Brighton half, just to give it a try, and found it to be a life-changing event for me. I ran track and cross-country in high school (in Georgia, USA), but have now realised that long distance is the way forward for me. I enjoy the running wonderland we have here in Brighton; the perfect ground of the downs, as well as the sea to keep you company on long runs.. I've now caught "the bug" and need running as much for mental clarity as I do for the amazing way it makes me feel.
I am delighted to be raising money for the Sussex Fund, as it is a hardship fund that supports those with difficulties being able to manage the costs of university. I feel fortunate to have been able to return to University (age 36), and relish the learning experience Sussex has given me. I also know about difficulties in life, as I lost both of my parents at age 13 and, although I have an incredibly supportive extended family, faced many challenges while trying to figure out my place in the world. This discovery continues, as my time at Sussex has opened many a new door for exploration.
Please help others who may be in similar need by donating to my cause for the Sussex fund.. as well as my challenge of running the marathon in under 3 hours!! Thanks kindly for your time.. all the best
