Story

I’ve been trying to get my head around the kind of situation in which families of patients at Rainbows Hospice find themselves. Since becoming a dad, I’ve felt it all the more keenly. The all-encompassing horror that your child is seriously ill must be completely life-altering - and these are life-altering and life-limiting conditions. Rainbows provides care for babies and children with such conditions as cancer, heart and brain disease and rare genetic disorders.

The wonderful thing I take from their work is the fact they are giving such sick children a present tense when the future can look so bleak. From music therapy to hydrotherapy, enjoyed by all the family, its a haven of comport and support. A little respite from the reality of the near future. The gratitude that pours out from parents, often bereaved, is testament to how brilliant the service Rainbows provides is: https://www.rainbows.co.uk/how-we-help/who-we-help

I am running the 2022 London Marathon for Rainbows Hospice. My target is £4,000 and every penny of that will be accounted for by the hospice, paying for nursing hours, music classes and facility updates. If I make my target, that will pay for 70 hours of music therapy and as a musician I like to think about how far just one hour of that will go to alleviate, distract and soothe.

They say:

Sadly, some children just don't live long enough. As the East Midlands only hospice for children and young people, Rainbows is a place where life-limited children and their families can find care and support. Our incredible team of people help relieve symptoms, improve quality of life, support parents and siblings through their bereavements and care for children until the end. Please visit www.rainbows.co.uk to see what we do and hear from some of the families that we support. Rainbows is a place where children can laugh, play and make every precious moment count, while families already bereaved are supported through the toughest times. Because of you and other supporters like you, a family will be able to make special memories they will cherish forever and bring a smile to their childs face as they laugh and play. Please help the team brighten short lives - thank you
