David Goggins Running Challenge · 20 August 2021

The Ted Senior Foundation was set up after Ted Senior (aged 22) took his own life. He was a medical student following his dreams. The premise of the service will be to train individuals in universities and local schools sports teams in mental health first aid. We also work with The Support after Suicide Partnership.

Story

On the 20th August, 4 mates and I will be completing the David Goggins running challenge for various charities. The challenge involves running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours, totalling 48 miles (just under 2 marathons) over the 2 day period. Training has been going on throughout the summer and despite a few of us being slightly out of shape at the end of uni, we’re feeling confident it will be completed!

I will be raising money for the Ted Senior Foundation, which is a charity I worked closely with during my time at UBRFC throughout uni. Ted played for the rugby club a few years before I joined Bristol and tragically took his own life in 2018, aged only 22. The charity aims to raise awareness of mental health and prevent suicide, particularly amongst students. Given the recent lockdowns and tough times we find ourselves in, the conversation around mental health is more important than ever and more can be done to tackle this stigma.
