Story
Hi my name is Ewan and I am 11. I live with my Mum, Dad and my little sister MacKenzie. I like playing football and basketball and playing my PS3.
Since October 2010 I have not been very well and after lots of visits to Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and eventually a stay in Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow the doctors said I had kidney disease which is caused by my immune system attacking my kidneys. The name for it is Membranoproliferativeglomerulonephritis – MPNG for short. I remember this by saying “My Pee’s Not Good”. My Consultant Dr Oxley says that I am in remission just now so I am better than I was but am still very tired most of the time. My legs get very sore and I get breathless because I am anemic. I have to get lots of blood tests taken at the hospital but I don’t really mind because the nurses are all really nice and I have a laugh with them. Consultants from Yorkhill Hospital come to Aberdeen to see me and other renal patients once a month. I always have the last appointment of the day because my Mum does not like me missing school.
Kidney Kids Scotland helps kids like me and their families in many ways but their main objective it to help as many children as possible to be treated as near to home as possible .
My Mum Wilma along with family and friends are taking part in the Baker Hughes 10K on 20th May 2012 to raise money for Kidney Kids and I feel very proud that they are doing this for such a great cause.
