WaterAid is an international not-for-profit, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation. Only by tackling these three essentials in ways that last can people change their lives for good.

Story

We are H2OBC, a team of HSBC graduates competing in the Winnovators project for WaterAid. Winnovators is a global project where teams compete across three dimensions:

  • Develop a solution to a real world problem
  • Fundraise to contribute to the cost of the solution
  • Demonstrate our individual and team-based skills development

Our challenge to solve is focused on the rural indigenous Wayuu population in the La Guajira region of Colombia. Here, drinking water is scarce and is used for human consumption, domestic livestock and crops, creating high competition for water resources.

In 2017, governmental policy changed that recognised the challenges facing the people of the Wayuu community, but whilst resources are now being made available, there are limitations in their utilisation and concerns of sustainability. We have been tasked with developing an optimal framework for the use of the water resources available that take into account the unique economic, social and technical hurdles to ensure that changes for this community are long-term.

Our ambition is to help to fund the project cost, with an ambition to raise at least £5,000 over the coming months.

We appreciate your support and will be keeping you updated along the way!

Thanks for all of your help so far,

H2OBC
