Story

As part of the Sheffield Kidney Institute’s World Kidney Day event on the 12th of March I will be riding 100km without moving an inch. Please consider sponsoring me for the Sheffield Hospitals Charity.

Cycling and kidney disease have had a special 12 months, and I’m particularly keen to recognise this with the sponsored activities for World Kidney Day this year. In June 2019 at UK Kidney Week in Brighton, we heard from Prof James Burton how the CycleHD trial had shown significant improvements in the structure of the heart in people on haemodialysis who used an exercise bike during their dialysis treatment. Meanwhile Sarah Gilbert, a motivated physiotherapist here in Sheffield was showing that we could put these findings into practice in her Bikes on Dialysis pilot.

In recognition of this, I will be finishing a larger cycling-based fundraising activity at the Sheffield Kidney Institute. Between 4.30pm and 7.30pm on the 12th of March I will be riding as far as I can on an exercise bike in Sorby Renal Outpatients. Visit our World Kidney Day event to see me suffer, I’m hoping to do 100km.
