We support anyone experiencing homelessness to access vital accommodation and support

Story

Woking Football Club players and management have come together to make a fun music video to raise money for the homeless at Christmas.

They have recreated the Band Aid video for “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” under Musical Director, midfielder Paul Hodges. We’re very proud of the result, although a Christmas no. 1 is probably not ‘on the Cards’. We are aiming to raise funds for the York Road Project in Woking.

The Project provides emergency and longer-term accommodation for those experiencing homelessness, a situation that is especially awful at Christmas. The staff work with clients from all walks of life, 18 years and older, regardless of disability, gender, race, religion, belief and sexual
orientation.

The Project is based in Woking and primarily focuses on serving the local community.  It was started many years ago by a number of passionate individuals from various churches in Woking offering sandwiches and soup to people 'sleeping rough'.  This developed into a 'winter watch' project supported by Shelter and provided emergency accommodation over the winter period (November-February) using various properties loaned by the Council. This was developed further by the 'night watch' programme which operated for a longer period of the year and also offered some supported 'move-on' accommodation.

Eventually the York Road Project was formed in 2001 and was registered with The Charity Commission.  In accommodation leased to and refurbished by Woking Borough Council at 1 York Road, it now operates services all through the year. The Project is the Mayor of Woking’s charity for his current term, and Woking Football Club will also be collecting for them at our Christmas event in Jubilee Sq on Monday 17th December.

We hope you will enjoy our musical offering and will wish to donate to this wonderful Project.
