Wolverhampton To The West End · 27 May 2020

The Wolverhampton Grand Theatre has been inspiring and entertaining audiences since 1894. Our mission is to improve our local community by putting Education, Creativity and a Passion for Arts at its heart. We passionately believe theatre has the capacity to change lives - help us make this happen!

Story

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to visit our Just Giving Page.

The Grand Theatre has stood proudly in Wolverhampton for the past 125 years, and on Monday 23 March 2020 closed it's doors temporarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I'm sure at some point in your life the Grand Theatre will have had a positive impact on your life;

* You may have spent quality time with loved ones, laughing, crying or dancing in your seat while watching a show.

* You may have danced on the stage as a child, or watched your own children dance on stage.

* Someone you love dearly may have visited our Memory Cafe, which was put together for people living with, or caring for someone, with dementia.

* You may have graduated on stage.

*You may have been to see the pantomime with every generation of your family over the years.

* You may have brought your children to see their favourite TV characters come to life on stage.

* You may have performed on stage as part of an amateur dramatic society.

* You may have visited when you were at school to see a piece of drama that supported your learning.

* You may have made lifelong friends while working at the theatre

The list is endless!

At a time when the future of the Arts industry is looking bleak, it is important to act now to help support the future of theatre in the city. This is why Chris and I have decided to run/walk 150 miles throughout June, which is the equivalent distance of travelling from Wolverhampton to the West End.

I appreciate times are hard for people at present, but the smallest amounts add up to make a big difference!

You can follow our progress on Strava (Emma Acton) and we'll update regularly on our progress.

Disclaimer: we may resort to cycling some of the miles if our knees can't handle the pressure!
