Sport has the power to change lives, but only if everyone gets a fair chance. The Women’s Sport Trust raises the visibility and increases the impact of women’s sport through promoting role models, increasing media coverage and improving funding.

Story

If you have felt inspired by watching world-class women’s sport in 2019, then hopefully this appeal to sponsor my charity walk later this year, to help raise funds to supercharge the profile of some of the nation’s leading sportswomen, will appeal to you.

Following a lifelong passion for women’s sport, in November 2017 I was lucky enough to become a Trustee of the Women’s Sport Trust, which was founded on the back of London 2012, and which has become the leading UK women’s sport charity. We campaign to make women’s sport visible, viable and unstoppable by lobbying the media for greater coverage of women’s sport, encouraging brand investment and promoting elite female athletes as positive role-models.

Responding to the key needs outlined by elite athletes in the UK, in response to a Women’s Sport Trust survey, in 2020 we will be launching a new initiative that will offer 30 elite female athletes a unique training programme aimed at supercharging their profile and influence and providing them with the skills to do so.

Despite the incredible progress made in women’s sport in 2019, one of the biggest challenges remains funding. This is certainly the case at the Women’s Sport Trust, where despite not having any full-time staff, we have been recognised as influencing the industry’s key stakeholders to act as a catalyst for change.

As a small cash stretched charity we are continually in need of funds to support our activities and so I have decided to do a fundraising walk for the Women’s Sport Trust. This will help create an athlete bursary fund to ensure a diverse range of elite athletes, some of whom aren’t fully professional, can attend our training programme.

Taking in venues of some of the golden moments of British women’s sport in the past decade, this 35-mile walk around London will see us on 21st December, on the darkest weekend of the year, walk in the cold and rain from the Olympic Stadium to Twickenham, but also stopping at venues that have hosted magical moments including Lord’s, Wembley Arena, Wembley Stadium and Wimbledon.

So whether you are a fan of women’s sport, are passionate about equality, or want to see positive female role models in society to inspire a healthy nation, then I would love if you could donate some money and help some of our finest female athletes to step up their influence and profile.

And if you think you can support our athlete training programme in other ways, through wider sponsorship or providing value in kind, then please e-mail info@womenssporttrust.com
