***Update*** Popcorn has now gone to her forever home. Thank you so much for all your help and please continue to give, if you can, so we can keep helping animals like Popcorn. ***Update***
**Update** Popcorn has had her surgery and is doing well. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, we still need your help though. We have received the bill and it is actually less than predicted at £3000 inc VAT so with your help we can reach our target sooner. Also see Popcorn Cat featured on Cambridge TV on Vimeo. **Update**
Popcorn's two sisters were rehomed as a pair, but Popcorn had to wait for her home as the vet discovered she had a heart murmur. It was following a cardiac ultrasound scan that the severity of Popcorn’s condition was revealed.
Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a congenital condition of the heart, more commonly seen in dogs, it is rare in cats. Following surgical correction Popcorn should be able to live a normal life. The surgery is only available at a few specialist referral hospitals. It is vital that surgery is carried out before any symptoms are evident as the condition causes the heart to be under a great strain and thus the surgery is more successful if there is no delay in closing the Ductus Arteriosus, which is an important vessel in the foetus ensuring blood is
not circulated to the lungs. This vessel should close off naturally in the first few hours after birth but this has not happened in Popcorn’s heart and this is now causing a disruption in the way blood is being circulated around her body.
The surgery costs £4000 and anything you can give will be very much appreciated. Any extra we raise will be put towards our Hungry Mouths Appeal, which will help all the other animals in our care this Christmas. Visit www.woodgreen.org.uk/hungry_mouths for more info.
