Story

The Woodpecker WOD Team takes on it's first fundraising event on 16th August 2020

It was a no brainier for us to Support Mind. (West Sussex)

Mental health is so close to all our hearts and without support network, last year would have been so much more difficult. Creating Woodpecker WOD has even helped me with strengthening myself by trying to support others. We want to raise money for mind for they can continue to raise awareness for mental health and run their local Hubs around Sussex. Please know, Mind are doing amazing things from meditation classes to virtual quizzes. We want all our family, friends and anyone reading this to know. We @woodpecker_wod are here for you, as are Mind, as are the people in your life. You just need to do the brave thing and reach out to them!

The skateboarading team is comprised of Myself, Charles Mears and Lewis Ide both recently taking back up skateboarding and keen fitness enthusiasts. Lucy Adams joins us having stumbled across us both starting back up at Broadbridge Heath. If you didn't know, she's unbelievable on a skateboard, has the deck on a string, but yet has the patients of a saint when it comes to helping and coaching all abilities.

We will be supported by our close friend and brother in arms, Andy Pickard who will be cycling the journey with us! I'm sure we'll hook a go pro up and get some great photo's along the way. (plus he doesn't know it yet but he'll have the food supplies in a bag).

The challenge is going to be 26.2 miles of skateboarding, from Worthing to Brighton and back. Along the way we will be sharing stories and talking all things support and mental health. The beauty of skateboarding is, its an incredible metaphor. Sometimes it hurts when you fall, sometimes the road is tough, sometimes the pavement seems difficult to carry on. But, its crucial to know if we take our time, we can keep going.

Woodpecker WOD was set up to support local business's and create a community that are there for each other. The fundamentals are making sure we are tough enough to understand that life is difficult and we need to keep chipping away at it.

We've enjoyed a couple of hard endurance workouts together. First, ERNIE. to support Lee Earnshaw, A former service man in his final fight against Cancer. The team rallied to take part in a countryside event. We learnt we had to dig deep as individuals and surprised ourselves at how much we could do when we need to.

Next, we did a partner workout. BERT into ERNIE. This was about learning to share workloads and burdens. We had to be when our partner needed us the most for support despite going through the challenges ourselves.

So for this challenge i need the ever growing communities support. Please donate to the incredible cause, share so someone else can and even better, let your network know you're there for them!
