Worcester hockey 5's 128k for 128 years of the club

Worcester 5ths 128k · 5 June 2020
Worcester Hockey Club has recently been granted planning permission to build a state of the art hockey centre with two international standard water based pitches and changing facilities. This project is in partnership with Worcester City Council and RGS Worcester. WHC and RGS each have to raise £300,000 and we are holding many fundraising events to help achieve this target.
We are holding a Virtual Fundraising Day on Saturday 6th June and to support this, on the Friday beforehand, members of the club’s 5th XI will be meeting at Pitchcroft (appropriate social distancing of course!) to undertake a 128 challenge; so called because WHC was founded 128 years ago. We are meeting at Pitchcroft because that is where WHC first played their hockey; or as the ‘Birmingham Gazette’ described it in 1904:
“One afternoon during the winter of 1892, Pitchcroft, the famous enclosure of the Faithful City was invaded by a strange band of Malcontents. They had murderous looking sticks in their hands rudely turned out at the ends, and excitement burned in their eyes.. these men who came so boldly to meet the public eye were but harmless hockey players - pioneers of the game in Worcester.”
This modern day “strange band of malcontents” will be running, jogging, and cycling around Pitchcroft to a total of 128 kilometres between them, for some of them at least, that will be a major achievement!
We would be grateful for any contribution you can make to this worthwhile cause, the new hockey centre will benefit the club, RGS, other schools, the local community, and will potentially attract visitors, supporters, and players from across the world benefitting the city as a whole
Thankyou"
