Royal Trinity Hospice is the only dedicated end of life care provider for 750,000 people living across the central and south west London boroughs of Lambeth, Wandsworth, Hammersmith and Fulham, Richmond, Merton, Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea. Every day 27 people living in this area will find out that they have a terminal illness. We are here to help them live life to the full, whatever time they have left.
In 2017/18 they provided specialised end of life care to 2,351 patients whilst also providing support for their carers and families for as long as they needed us. It is their belief at Trinity that their patients can and should be supported to continue living as fully as possible while they care for them. However, with the number of people needing their care growing year on year, it is vital they continue to secure donations to meet this need.
It costs around £13 million every year to deliver their services, and as a registered charity, only 25% of this is funded by the NHS. Without the generosity and dedication of our donors, they would not be able to care for those in our community facing a life-limiting illness.
Case Study - Alison’s Story
‘My Dad Tommy was admitted to hospital last summer with an acute infection and cardiac arrest. However, we weren’t prepared when he was also diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. Trinity helped us sort out all the care Dad needed to come home and referred us to Jeannie, one of Trinity’s Specialist Community Dementia nurses. She has been amazing! We didn’t know what to do when Dad was first discharged as his Dementia was already at an advanced stage. He was frightened and agitated and refusing to eat or drink. I was worried Dad was unreachable but Jeannie helped us learn to speak his language. Jeannie also acted as an advocate for my Dad. She still cares for Dad and fights his corner to make sure he has the best quality of life possible.
Personally, it’s been tough and stressful juggling my job with my Dad’s care. However I now receive counselling from Trinity’s Patient and Family Support team which has been just fantastic. I don’t know what I would have done without Trinity’s help, I am truly grateful. There are moments when we get a little light from him, and that’s when we know it has all been worthwhile.'
