Story
We are a group of friends who all attend @Worle gym. At the start of lockdown in November, our instructor Becky set us the challenge of walking 10,000 steps a day for 4 weeks. We all enjoyed the challenge, and decided it was something we would like to keep up until Christmas Eve.
With Christmas done and another lockdown looming, we wanted to take on another challenge, and decided to do the virtual walk from Land's End to John O'Groats between January 4th and June 6th. That's 874 miles! We are hoping to finish our challenge by taking part in the 30 Mile Mendip Challenge for Weston Hospicecare, restrictions allowing, but either way we will finish our challenge with a 30 mile trek on that day!
Weston Hospicecare is a charity that means a lot to all of us; we all know someone affected by cancer and many of us know someone who has been supported by the hospice as well. The charity was unable to hold a lot of their events last year, so we would like to do our bit in helping them to raise vital funds so they can continue to provide support to the local community.
Receiving an end-of-life diagnosis can be difficult, not just for the patient but also for their loved ones. At Weston Hospicecare, our team of palliative care experts is dedicated to working together to provide specialist support. Our social, emotional, psychological, spiritual and physical care helps guide people through one of the most difficult experiences they will ever face. With only 20% of our funding coming from the NHS, we have to raise £4 million each year to fund our care - something that's only made possible by our community.
