On the 10th of October I will be taking part in the Brighton 5K Colour Run in aid of the MS Society.
Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological condition affecting around 100,000 people in the UK alone. Where the immune system attacks the myelin sheath that protects nerves, it can interrupt signals in the body and leave permanent lesions on the brain and spinal chord. Symptoms of MS can be anything from fatigue, spasms, vision problems, poor mobility and balance issues. No two people affected with MS are the same and it can be a tricky disease to diagnosis as most of the symptoms are invisible. With the help of donations to the charity, more research can be carried out to help bring us closer to finding a cure!
My MS diagnosis aged 22 in 2013 came as a shock but I hope with raising awareness and money; the charity can continue to run the support lines and create literature which I found so helpful to me when I was coming to terms with my diagnosis.
After my most recent relapse in my MS, my mobility was affected and I was concerned I may not get my walking back to normal as I lost sensation in my foot. With the help of medication and physio from health professionals, I have managed to get back on my feet (quite literally!) - though even a 5K run could still prove challenging!
Every penny counts and I would really appreciate any support :) thanks for reading!
