The Prince’s Trust - Capgemini Wild UK Challenge · 4 September 2009 ·

The King’s Trust supports 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to get their lives on track. Many of the young people we support are in or leaving care, have been in trouble with the law, or they are facing challenges such as homelessness or mental health issues.

Story

Welcome to the Worthing Wild Challenge (WWC) fundraising page!

9 brave members of staff from the Worthing Aspire team have decided to take on what could be the biggest challenge of their lives so far, helping hundreds of young people across the UK to turn their lives around.

These two intrepid teams will be spending three memorable days crossing the West Country from coast to coast to raise vital funds for the UK's leading youth charity, The Prince's Trust.

In The Prince's Trust's Wild UK Challenge, sponsored by Capgemini, our 9 friends and colleagues will start beside the Atlantic Coast at Porlock Bay in North Somerset, hike across Exmoor, kayak around Lake Wimbleball and cycle through Devon, ending their journey with a sea swim on the South Coast of Devon. Enduring a gruelling eight hours of physical activity each day, our two Worthing teams will be competing against other teams to be the first to cross the finish line on Exmouth Beach.

The Capgemini Wild UK Challenge for The Prince's Trust takes place from 4th September 2009. Each team member needs to raise at least £800 in sponsorship which could help one young person to completely turn their life around by enabling them to take part in Team, the Trust's 12-week self development programme aimed at getting them in to work, education, or training. Participants will enjoy a life-enhancing experience and could help change at least 200 disadvantaged young lives.

Derek Hogg, part of the 4 person team 'In Praise of Slow' said 'The Prince's Trust has played a huge part in my life. When I was 18 I attended one of the very first Team Programmes the Trust ran in Dundee in 1992. Not having done very well in school and just recovering from two collapsed lungs (same lung 2 weeks apart, not both of them ;-) I was an unemployed, directionless 18 year old growing up in a town that didn't offer its young adult population much of anything. The Team Programme developed my confidence and self esteem over its 12 week duration and lead to college/university and eventually to Capgemini.

I feel extremely proud to work for a company that's done so much for the Trust, but to be able to make a direct contribution myself through this challenge event is perhaps one of the most important things I will ever do.'

In order to raise the £7200 required to enter the challenge, these 9 Worthing Capgemini employees will be organising various fundraising activities over the coming months.  But if you want to make a direct contribution please use this site to donate to the two teams.

Thanks and Best Wishes from:

Team One 'Cap in Hand' - Rachael Ogden, Alex Edwards, Kanti Walden, James Buckley, Mike Holladay and Andree Fawkes

Team Two 'In Praise of Slow' - Derek Hogg, Simon Hall and Bethan Richmond

The youth charity The Prince's Trust helps change young lives in the UK. It gives practical and financial support, developing skills such as confidence and motivation. It works with 14-30 year olds who have struggled at school, have been in care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law. In 32 years, The Prince of Wales' charity has helped over half a million young people and continues to support 100 more every working day.
