Story
Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.
Well here we go again, I’m sure we had t-shirts saying “never again” after the Vietnam Cambodia bike ride! But, we all know, have heard, or read about someone who has been affected by this terrible illness. When it comes close to home, it makes you not only think about it more, but pushes you even harder to try to do something to help.
Most of you already know that one of our team members from last time Wendy, is currently on her own personal journey, she did the right thing and went to the doctors straight away and has just finished a course of treatment.
Wendy wants us to highlight the importance to you all, any slight thoughts something isn’t right, get it checked, don’t think about it, do it!
So, we have decided yet again, to get on our bikes and take some positive action in the fight against not only breast, ovarian and cervical cancers, but all cancers.
This time we will be Cycling as team: Bev Whitehead, Carol Jeffery and Linda Palmer “Women on Wheels “(WOW) and once again, we will be part of an amazing group of women tackling a Women V Cancer Challenge.
The challenge takes place from the 15th – 23rd October 2020 and this time its Thailand!
We will be challenging ourselves as part of a women only team of cyclists riding through Thailand to support the work of three charities: Breast Cancer Care: Every year 55,000 women and men will receive the devastating news that they have breast cancer. Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust: Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to women affected by cervical abnormalities and cervical cancer. Nearly three women die every day in the UK from cervical cancer with eight being diagnosed and facing an uncertain future. After breast cancer,
cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women aged 35 and under. And Ovarian Cancer Action. Ovarian cancer is the biggest gynaecological killer of women in the UK.12 women die each day from the disease.
We will cycle around 416Km (258 miles) over 5 days – both on and off road – experiencing rural Thailand, away from the tourist’s trails and hotspots. It will be a journey full of fun, friendship and incredible support as women of all ages and from all walks of life come together to challenge themselves for a great cause.
As well as training hard, we need to raise a minimum of £3,400 each (£10,200.00 collectively) to support the work of the Women v Cancer charities and we are asking family, friend’s local people and companies to help us reach our target. You were all amazing supporting us last time, and we hope we can count on all of you this time.
Cancer affects many of us (1 in 3, in fact). We've all lost family and friends to the disease and have also watched people care for loved ones stricken by it.
We also know many survivors, currently in remission or cured, who would not be alive without the dedication and brilliance of the scientists, doctors, nurses and support workers who battle cancer daily. We all know that these people need more resources to develop kinder, safer, more successful treatments, to prolong and save more lives.
Please consider donating to Women v Cancer on our behalf. You can donate here through JustGiving using PayPal or credit card. You can donate once, or as many times as you like, as much or as little as you wish. Every penny will help.
Donating through JustGiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to donate: Women v Cancer gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, JustGiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Together, we will beat cancer.
Thank you to everyone for your support, we can't do this without you.

Linda Palmer.
