Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Have you ever had one of those conversations? You and your mates make a big plan to do something, but you know it’s all hot air? You’re just romancing – Let’s ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats, why not”.  You leave the pub and forget about it; we do it all the time.

That was Autumn 2019.  Then a pandemic arrived and some of us thought – “that ride is definitely not going to happen – which is a good thing, I’ve just realised it’s nearly 1,000 miles on a bike! There are parts of my anatomy not designed for that. And anyway, I’ve added a few pandemic pounds.

The whole problem is that the conversation was between a group of triathletes; they have long memories and they like daft challenges, the result being that on 26th June this year a group of seven riders from Wakefield Triathlon Club will be pedalling the length of the country and will do it with the purpose of raising money for Wakefield Hospice.  They’re hoping to finish on 4th July (2021!) at which point they will declare independence from their bikes.

Everyone knows the great things done by hospices across the country in supporting people with life threatening illnesses and their families through such difficult and trying times. But everyone also hears how cash strapped such charities are right now. So please, do support these stupid triathletes whose dreams got slightly ahead of their abilities. Give them something to pedal for!

Graham Ward-Thompson

Chairman – Wakefield Triathlon Club (and one of the older idiots undertaking this ride).

The team

Scouse Dumont (one of the best things to come out of the other side of the Pennines)

Adam Foster (any golf courses on the way?)

Patrick Heptinstall (no pictures please)

Chris Harris (a triathlete wannabe – he just doesn’t realise it)

Dale Crowther (Duracell bunny“ease it down Dale”)

Karl-Eric Devaux (the sexiest voice in the team – not a difficult achievement though)

Graham Ward-Thompson (too old for this)
