Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I decided that as I was taking on a challenge of running my first marathon, I would raise money for a local charity. Below is a bit about them.
Wycombe Youth Action was founded 36 years ago and has looked 1000’s of young people over the years by offering support, and a chance to shine.
The Wycombe Youth Action team run projects throughout the year to engage with a wide range of young people and help them to develop skills and confidence. Many of these projects involve the creative arts in areas such as Graffiti Art and Rap Music, and are generally aimed at reducing social exclusion and helping young people to develop and achieve their goals.
In partnership with other organisations we complete multi-generational and conservation projects to provide young people the chance to give back to their community, and provide them with the chance to both challenge and change the stereotypes faced by young people today. Most of this work is paid for from donations and we work tirelessly to raise as much as we can to continue doing this vital work.
Many of the young people that we have helped over the years now work with us as volunteers a true testament to the success of Wycombe Youth Action.
Our funded projects include Mentoring, anti Knife crime, prevent work and we also run a youth council which is a shadow form of the local District council and it gives our young people the chance to air their views and let the local politicians know what young people are thinking. This is a very interesting and rewarding project.
These projects are funded from successful bids that have been achieved via the home office the local authority and the police and crime commissioner, cuts are being made right left and centre and gaining funds to continue these projects is now becoming harder and harder but the problems our young people face are increasing. We would like to carry on doing this work and have decided to try and self fund, where we can and the support and effort from people like Cathy will help.
