Story

Thank you for visiting our Just Giving Page.

Some of you know that I was lucky enough to go to Ghana and volunteer in a school earlier this year. The experience was both challenging and humbling and I have come back with a deep desire to do more for the lovely children I met out there.

One of the things that struck me is the schools determination to provide a hot meal for every child that attends. This was the only food some of the children had all day.  The school asked the parents to pay a ‘Feeding Fee’ of 40 pesewas (15 pence) per day towards the cost of this. There are about 100 children at the school so the total requested contribution is £15 per day.

The majority of families cannot afford this amount so the school feeds the children with whatever food they can buy with the little money that has been sent in.

This seems to have struck a chord with Archer and he has asked if he can raise money to help feed the children. Archer has already sold a lot of his old toys and has raised enough money to feed the children for 2 days!  We would love to feed the whole school once a week.

Archer’s first event was the 5k Colour run in Brighton. He has also climbed a Derbyshire ‘mountain’ called Thorpe Cloud, cycled around Virginia Water lake with no stabilisers, just about managed a sponsored silence and swam 450 metres (just over a quarter of a mile!!) in January. Archer read aloud for 30 minutes in February (not an easy task for a 6 years old with a short attention span) memorised 105 words for a spelling test in March and swam for 150 metres in the sea in April.  In May Archer completed the Green and 9 legs of the Blue cross country bike trails at the The Lookout. In June Archer and some friends undertook another sponsored bike ride, and in August he walked 9 miles  (15k) to and from school. The final activity is a 'fun' activity in which Archer will undertake a sponsored 'pizza-eat' with his school friends. A fitting end to an amazing challenge....

Please, please dig deep. £15 feeds 100 children for the day and really does Make A Difference.
