Alexander Wrigley is raising money for Ataxia UK
In memory of Liz Wise

10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In July this year, my mother in law, Liz, died: she had suffered from Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 3 (SCA3). SCA3 is a degenerative neurological condition with no cure. Over time, it has a progressively greater impact on the sufferer’s ability to live their lives, taking away their ability to walk, and degrading their ability to eat, to see clearly, and to speak.

On Sunday 2nd October, I will be taking part in the Clarendon Marathon (https://www.clarendon-marathon.co.uk), attempting to run cross-country from Salisbury to Winchester to raise money for the charity Ataxia UK, which funds research and supports services to help those affected by Ataxia.  To add to the challenge, I will attempt to push my two children, aged 3 and 5, across that marathon distance in a pushchair. Their time sitting in the pushchair will be their own allegorical tribute to their grandma, who used a wheelchair for the latter years of her life.

It is far from clear that my children and I will be able to accomplish this challenge. We will, however, be driven on in the knowledge that we are doing it in memory of Liz, and raising money to support research into SCA3. If you would like to support us in our attempt, please consider donating, or even coming along to cheer along the route on the day.

Donations made will be restricted to funding scientific research into SCA3 but please note that Gift Aid is used by Ataxia UK where the need is greatest within the charity as a whole.

Thank you for your support,

Xander
