One Pound enables 4 meals to be distributed...
On 25th September I will be joining 5 other "well covered" but inappropriately clad friends to cycle from Land's End to John O’Groats. MAMILs (Middle Aged Men In Lycra) is not a good look, so in the interests of being considerate and minimising shock factor we are doing this in 9 days. This means a little over 100 miles/160km per day - some days are over 200km, others nearer to 150km with an average of ~2,000m climbing per day. I don’t expect it to be easy. I can only be confident that the UK weather will be blissful for 9 days straight, going into October. What could possibly go wrong?
Giving is very personal. Nothing is expected from anyone. For those that would rather try and make a difference in a non-financial way and support this charity and my efforts please get in touch privately and I can make your helping easy and impactful. I should add that I will be paying all my own costs of doing the journey and every penny I raise will be going direct to the charity.
I have chosen to support FareShare. In a nutshell what they do is take unused but in-date food that would otherwise go to waste and distribute it to charities and those most in need. They work with 11,000 different charities, they feed almost a million people a week in the UK. With Covid, cancellations of events like the London Marathon, etc., charities are finding it incredibly tough. FareShare really helps many of them keep going. Something like 93% of consumable surplus food gets discarded. In perspective this is 380,000,000 wheelie bins full - or 8 Wembley Stadiums full to the brim of good food going to waste while folks go hungry. They operate Nationwide in the UK. In terms of due diligence I’ve read their annual reports and spoken to their representative. Their website is comprehensive if you would like to learn more. https://fareshare.org.uk/what-we-do/
- People should not be going hungry whilst good edible food is thrown out
- One British Pound, enables 4 meals to be distributed. Literally every penny counts
- This helps those most in need
- This helps the environment
Please support if you can - or if you normally support another charity in any way, via sponsoring folks in London Marathons etc. and this just works as a prompt on that - then please don't forget them and take a second to give to them instead - I think they all need it right now...
