We provide services in Hertfordshire to help improve the lives of older people

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

  • Over one million older people say they always or often feel lonely
  • Loneliness can be as harmful as smoking 15 cigarettes a day
  • A high degree of loneliness doubles the chance of developing Alzheimer's vs. someone with a low degree of loneliness
  • Over 20,000 people in Hertfordshire said they 'always' or 'often' experience loneliness
  • 75,000 older people in Hertfordshire live alone

And the pandemic has only exacerbated these challenges, creating more anxiety and mental health challenges amongst older people. In a recent survey, 80% of local older people said the pandemic had negatively affected their mental health.

That's why I wore fancy dress in 2020 and am continuing in 2021. I want to continue showing the local community they are not alone, that there is help and support available, and that they can get through the difficult times ahead. I also want to continue raising money to support local charity, Age UK Herts.

If you’re able to donate and wish to do so, I’d appreciate it. If not, then just follow me on Twitter, LinkedIn or Instagram to see my festive outfits (@nicholasjemetta).
